London Gatwick implements Power Stow´s lifting aid
London Gatwick has successfully completed testing of the Power Stow Transfer Belt system on arrival conveyors in the South Terminal. Following an extensive trial period in daily operations, the airport has now placed an order for five additional Transfer Belt units.
During the trial, the Transfer Belts demonstrated improvements for baggage handlers by reducing physical strain, such as twisting, bending, and lifting, while maintaining operational efficiency. The system facilitates smooth and gentle transfer of luggage from carts and ULDs onto the reclaim belts, helping to protect airport infrastructure, reduce baggage damage and minimize work-related injuries.
Stevie Summers, Senior Engineering Manager, Baggage at London Gatwick, commented: “At London Gatwick, we prioritise the wellbeing of our partners and are always looking to reduce work-related injuries. The Transfer Belt has proven to be a valuable tool during the trial period, making baggage handling more efficient and less physically demanding. We are committed to using the best available technology as we continue to drive automation across baggage and ensuring satisfaction for both our people and passengers.”
This step marks London Gatwick’s ongoing commitment to enhancing both the efficiency and safety of its baggage handling processes as the airport continues to invest in technologies that benefit both staff and passengers.
We look forward to extending our collaboration, making the airport a great place to work and travel through.
